Pursuant to section 41(1) of the Local Authorities Elections Act, Cap 28:03, the Guyana Elections Commission has given notice that 12th December, 2022, has been appointed NOMINATION DAY for the Local Government Elections as which has been appointed by the Order of the Minister to be held on the 13th March, 2023.

A list of candidates submitted by any Political Party, Voluntary Group or Individual candidate on Nomination Day must be accompanied by the pre-approved symbol, as this is required for the publication of the list in accordance with section 51 of the Local Authorities (Elections) Act, without which the Political Party, Voluntary Group or Individual Candidate would be unable to contest the Local Government Elections.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has taken note of the disinformation that have been propagated by small groups of placard-bearing persons who were protesting in front of a few of the Registration Offices of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Monday, November 21, 2022. The wording of some of the placards displayed grossly inaccurate information, for example, “GECOM it’s long overdue”, “21 days and still no OLV List,” “GECOM stop the nonsense and clean the list,” “21 days to Nomination Day, where is the OLV,” “We need sanitized voters list” and, “clean the voter’s list”........

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has extended the ongoing Claims and Objections Exercise by seven (7) days, to afford eligible persons further opportunities to participate in the process. In this regard, persons who are desirous of making a Claim to be included in the Official List of Electors (OLE) have until Wednesday, 21st September, 2022 to do so. Similarly, persons who intend to object to the inclusion of names in the OLE have until Sunday, 25th September to submit their objection(s)......
